Return to Glamour

With the rise in professional photography and amateur “fauxtography,” the fact remains that people are becoming more aware of the value of “personal art.”  Yes, it is very chic to hang a reprint of a Renoir in your living room, but it’s bound to be far less of a conversation piece than an amazing, artful portrait that truly means something to the person or family who lives there.

A “return to glamour” is a phrase grossly over-used in the fashion world, but it’s bringing something new back to modern photography.  Glamour photography can overlap with Boudoir photography, and under both labels the subject can be nearly nude or conservatively covered; it’s in the style.  It’s in the suggestion.  It’s in the story, the feeling portrayed… the experience you’re made to feel by that portrait that the Renoir reprint never could have incited.  Glamour photography, in fact, is one of the services in which our Creative Director is most involved.

As Wikipedia puts it, Glamour photography is simply “photography that highlights beauty, sexiness, allure, dazzle, fine lines and even romance.”  Like any portrait, Glamour is a style that puts you in your best light – but without the “soccer mom” infusion.  Nothing need to be revealed… it’s all in what’s suggested – beauty.  Like Boudoir, Glamour photography solicits a woman’s love for her true self, and in that strength comes beauty and confidence that make keepsake images that last a lifetime.

No two are ever alike, though many choose inspiration from the classics – Betty Paige, Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Rita Hayworth, the list goes on.  The Glamour photography of today shouldn’t conjure up any memories of overpriced pictures at the mall… these are professional portraits that are a requirement in every aspiring model’s portfolio, but they’re also portraits that can make any woman feel like a mode[l.  With a Creative Director, you’ve got a partner to be your guide from day 1 in ensuring that the final product is a collection of images that surprises you as if you were looking at the most beautiful self you always wanted to see.

If only for yourself to look back upon in 30 years, or for a gallery-wrap canvas that forever hangs in the family room and keeps people in shock that it’s “Mom,” Glamour portraits are as individual and artful in style as each woman herself.   Such an experience, from prep to print, is one of the best gifts anyone can give to their wives, girlfriends, mothers – or especially themselves.

  1. Howdy! This is my 1st comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and tell you I really enjoy reading through your posts. Can you recommend any other blogs/websites/forums that go over the same subjects? Many thanks!

  2. I made an appointment at Glamour Shots near me. I brgohut a wig and some clothes because I didn’t know if they would have my size available. I told them I was a guy, and the makeup artist did a great job on my face. I then had them take photos of me in three different outfits. I was amazed and very pleased by the results. I would happily go again!!
